Project visit in Hungary - Tree planting festivities in Örkény

On May 18th, 2023, we set off together with Alejandro, the project manager of our partner association Child & Family Foundation, to Örkény, a town in Dabas County in Hungary, to personally visit the latest initiative of our community awareness project "10,000 Trees for Climate Protection" and to assess the state of affairs on site.

Antal Gergics, Lorant Tengeresz, Josef Kurucz and Tibor Zöldesi, four of our most dedicated volunteers, have planted a staggering 800 trees here in recent weeks with the involvement of the residents as part of the project to symbolize the great importance of trees in the fight against climate change. These plantings were accompanied by awareness raising activities at the local Huszka Hermina Elementary School, during which the first grade children learned about environmental and climate protection.

A big tree-planting party at the school on May 19 was the perfect culmination of the initiative, which was also attended by the city's mayor and the mayor and delegation of Wörth an der Donau, Örkény's partner city.  The program included an inspiring morning full of poems, songs, dances and discussions about the importance of environmental protection, followed by the highlight of the event, when the children had the opportunity to plant their own trees on the school grounds.
