What was once the „Golden State“ is now the „Green State“
Whether its zero waste, recycling or eMobililty, California has long since been the forerunner when it comes to thinking about the future of our planet. Former Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, always fought strongly for a greener environment and continues to do so to this day. So it’s no big surprise that Lyoness California volunteered to take part in the “World Clean-Up Day” event, hosted by the Lyoness Americas.
Laguna Beach
Laguna Beach is a seaside city located in southern Orange County, California, in the United States. It’s known for a mild year-round climate, scenic coves, environmental preservation, and an artist community. It was also one of the clean-up locations of the “2017 Greenfinity World Clean Up Day US Canada” event.
Leave no trace
It would be nice if the human race didn’t leave any trace behind, at least, nothing that can be seen. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. It doesn’t seem to matter if people are rich or poor – many people just don’t think to put rubbish in a bin. Instead they treat beaches, wharfes and forests as landfills.
And that’s exactly why 7 volunteers decided to turn nature back to its „natural“ state. It was a day full of fun – as you would expect from the “Sunny State”, and many interesting items were discovered during the clean-up - including a beach chair and an umbrella!
Gold rush?
7 Volunteers collected 30lbs. (13 kg) of rubbish, which is a huge amount when you think that plastic weighs next to nothing! Gold diggers would have been happy to have found the same weight in gold. In this case however, the volunteers were filled with anger and incredulity. Apart from anything else, rubbish is valuable. If it’s recycled correctly, it can be used to produce energy, be turned into new products or even become topsoil.
