Typhoon Rai and the long road back to a lush school garden

Several weeks have gone by since Super Typhoon Rai swept across large parts of the Philippines in mid-December, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. But the cleanup and reconstruction work is far from complete and it will probably take years before any trace of this disaster has disappeared from the country.

It will also be a while before the school garden of San Roque Elementary School will shine in lush green again. The garden area was severely damaged by Rai. Fallen trees, destroyed garden beds and infrastructure - the cleanup continues to this day and is far from complete.

and the rest of the school garden is also completely demolished.

The school already has a plan to repair the garden, involving teachers, parents and other volunteers from the community. Currently, however, the many volunteers are still busy getting their own properties back in shape, repairing the partly severe damage to their houses or, in the worst case, completely rebuilding them.

There is nothing left of the former garden house of the school.
