Electricity and Clean Water for the Shanti Public School in India

Installation of a water treatment plant and a photovoltaic system during the renovation of the Child & Family Foundation school

Together with the Child & Family Foundation, the Greenfinity Foundation manages the cooperation project Shanti Public School in India in order to provide children with access to education. The Greenfinity Foundation is responsible for installing a water treatment plant and a photovoltaic system.

Poverty, illnesses, hunger, environmental pollution, a catastrophic education system and child labour – these are perhaps the biggest challenges confronting people in India each day. Children at the bottom of the run in society suffer most. The vicious circle of hopelessness spans from one generation to the next since children have to start working at a very young age in order to support their families. This means they cannot go to school, and, without prospects, cannot escape their home town and leave poverty behind.

Together they give the gift of hope

In the Shanti Children School, run by the Dhara Children Academy, 50 children from poor families are now given the chance of an education, which would be impossible for them without a cooperation project such as that by the Child & Family Foundation and the Greenfinity Foundation with the Dhara Poor Child Education Support Society in India. The Greenfinity Foundation has now set itself the task of supporting the Shanti Public School, and providing better learning conditions by means of adequate electricity and water supply for the children.

Photovoltaic system and water treatment plant

With help of the Greenfinity Foundation, the Shanti Children School, which has already been partly renovated and enlarged, is to be further renovated, renewed and, most importantly, equipped with a water treatment plant and a photovoltaic system by the end of 2020.

A renewal of the 15 year-old, rusty water pipes as well as the installation of an additional water tank has already started so that the school children not only have fresh drinking water in future, but also clean water at the sanitary facilities. That’s a real luxury in poor areas such as Surjan Nagar. Our joy increases each time we see the immense gratitude in the eyes of the children.

The Greenfinity Foundation’s second plan, installing a photovoltaic system, will provide a reliable electricity supply to the school in future. In the past, everyday school life was interrupted due to daily power outages lasting several hours. Without electricity, there’s no light, no fan in summer, and, most importantly, no heating in winter. Thus, school life has only been possible in summer, and then only to a limited extent.

Thanks to the Greenfinity Foundation, solar panels will be installed that ensure consistent electrical power supply. Never again will the children have to sweat as much in summer, and as soon as all works have been finished, they can attend school in winter, too.
