A new well for the Holy Trinity School in Nigera

Clean Water for 600 pupils at the Holy Trinity School

About 600 students (nursery, primary and secondary school) from socially disadvantaged backgrounds from Uromi and its surrounding area are attending the Holy Trinity School. The Holy Trinity School already had a well, but both the pump and the pipes were defect. The much needed water therefore always needed to be purchased. In order to help their situation, the Greenfinity Foundation decided to finance the well's repair.

Back in 2005 the Holy Trinity Nursery, Primary, Secondary, Vocational Centre (in short: Holy Trinity School) was opened by Frederick Akhelumele as a comprehensive school in Ebhebe Quarters (Uromi, Nigeria). With the aim of investing in his country's future, Akhelumele, a trained mathematician, initiated the school's construction. Support was given by the association Youthcare International. Despite the often missing financial resources, the Holy Trinity School has earned a good reputation.
Since May 2012, the Child & Family Foundation has been supporting and implementing the school's restorations works. Thanks to the Child & Family Foundation's commitment, the around 600 students have the opportunity to receive a good and comprehensive education.
Uromi is a very dry region, where water is a valuable commodity. The Holy Trinity School already had a well, but both the pump and the pipes were defect. The much needed water therefore always needed to be purchased. In order to help their situation, the Greenfinity Foundation decided to finance the well's repair.
The renovation works revealed that the well shaft needs to be drilled further into the ground in order to secure clean water. The works took longer than originally planned, but in the meantime have successfully been completed. The school can now generate its own water for drinking and sanitary facilities, thereby reducing the risk of the children becoming ill from unclean and contaminated water.
The plan is then to build a school garden for the Holy Trinity School based on the gardening project in the Philippines. This will give the children the chance to learn more about gardening so that they can start growing plants at home, too. The fruit and vegetables produced in the garden can be sold on, thereby generating an additional income for the school.
