Preserving the native biodiversity

Maintaining the biodiversity requires the perfect balance of plants and animals.

An ecosystem will only function as long as no external influences or intruders destroy its equilibrium. This balance should be maintained throughout the Purkersdorf nature reserve, which is why non-native plants are kept at bay.

Purkersdorf nature reserve's forest

The edges of the Purkersdorf nature reserve's forest and the river Wien are now home to the Chinese knotweed and the Japanese impatiens - so called neophytes, i.e. plants that settle and spread over a certain region, which they previously did not inhabit. Thus changing the native living environment and threatening the existing diversity of species.

We therefore support the care at the nature park which prohibits the non-native plants from entering the nature reserve.
