The situation of most schools in the Philippines is in dire need of improvement. The existing schools are barely capable of accepting about 1 million children that are beginning their education and are in extremely poor condition.
In cooperation with the project partner „Kinder Hilfe Philippinen e.V.“, which has been socially engaged in the Philippines for the last 25 years, the Child & Family Foundation has selected the San Roque Elementary School located in a very impoverished area.
This school is located in the southern part of the Philippine island Leyte and has about 400 students. The premises consist of individual single-storey buildings that are dilapidated.
Also the Greenfinity Foundation takes care of the project. On the school building’s roof a photovoltaic system will be installed in the course of renovation, a second one is being built in the nearby “Kinderdorf” (children’s village) run by the KinderHilfe Philippinen e.V. The systems are intended to achieve a performance of 4,4 kWp or 12 kWp. Both systems will be able to provide almost all the electricity needed by the institutions and to considerably reduce operating costs. Thus the school and the “Kinderdorf” (children’s village) will have more money for teaching materials, furniture and other things needed.
Additionally, the photovoltaic systems shall contribute to raising awareness. They create an opportunity to familiarise the children and teenagers with an alternative way of generating electricity.
