Our project partners from the association Fischfreunde Steiermark have spent the last weeks getting the Greenfinity natural oasis ready for winter and fished off two of the ponds. But don't worry, the fish living there are not meant to be eaten, they have only been relocated to less inhabited ponds, some of which they now share with other fish.
Our fish have been relocated
The fish are still part of the former tenant's fish farm and their relocation has now freed up space to allow endangered fish species to move into the natural oasis and give them a protected space in which to thrive again.
The fishing project became a real family project and even chairman Siegfried Unz's grandchildren helped diligently! They visibly enjoyed the work - after all, it's not every day that you can marvel at live fish, crabs and mussels up close!
After the group of dedicated helpers had slowly drained the water from the pond, the fish gathered in the so-called drainage pit, the deepest point before the drainage structure. Then they were carefully removed with landing nets and temporarily stored in containers of water equipped with air pumps. Now they just had to be sorted and were allowed to move into their new home.
