A sporting rubbish collection campaign in São Paulo, Brazil
50 kilogrammes of rubbisch collected have been collected at the Greenfinity Day in São Paulo
On 21th September, 27 volunteers decided to do their bit for the environment as part of the Greenfinity Day and collected 50 kilogrammes of rubbish in Parque Cemucam in São Paulo, Brazil.
The Parque Cemucam in Cotia, São Paulo, is famous for its distinctive flora and fauna, in particular for its bird species. However, over time, lots of rubbish had accumulated in the park, thrown there by negligent visitors. This compromises not only the park's aesthetic, but also has a negative impact on the environment.
This problem is not only characteristic of Parque Cemucam, but affects the entirety of the city of São Paulo and the whole of Brazil. Currently, they are trying to raise awareness of proper rubbish disposal, however many communities don't have the money to removal existing rubbish.
Striving for a cleaner park with a sporting attitude
To demonstrate to the residents of Cotia the value of a clean park, 27 volunteers met at 9 am on 21st September in Parque Cemucam. To get the team going, they kicked off the project with an hour's warm up.

The exercises were lead by members of Decathlon, a Cashback World Partner. Decathlon had already participated in a campaign as part of World Clean-Up Day and was keen to be able to do something to protect the environment.
After the short warm-up session, the volunteers, bursting with energy, began to free the park from the rubbish strewn about. o do this, the group split up and began combing the pathways on foot.

After roughly 90 minutes, the volunteers met up again and were astounded at the results: They had collected 50 kilos of rubbish!
The results didn't go unnoticed by park visitors – they were very grateful and promised to ensure that rubbish was properly disposed of in the future. Thanks to the campaign, the park has now been returned to its former glory.
We'd like to thank all volunteers for their efforts and the entire myWorld Americas team for making the Greenfinity Day a reality.
